These small, intimate collages were created after inheriting a shoe box of old family photographs mostly from the 1940s. I became fascinated by the photographs; the people in them are complete strangers to me, yet integral to my existence. Based on my own childhood experiences I began creating possible narratives for these past relatives, reflecting the tension and conflict present in one particular rural Minnesotan family where men and women have adhered to very specific gender roles.
