Feminism, Figure, Fashion, Fertility Never before has my artist self—myself—wanted my artwork to say something. My art has almost always avoided confrontation, and has skirted politics and major issues. It has always been geared toward aesthetics. Perhaps it was my time in New York that afforded me the experience of having formed into a very independently thinking woman. The feminism was always there. The use of the female figure is, of course, a nod to women’s bodies. The use of the non-ideal female figure is in honor of ALL women’s bodies. The absence of vivid color in the mostly tonal and/or black/white/grey palette suggests a more universal interpretation and hopes to blur color lines.
