We drove for seven hours that day, heading south from Fairbanks toward Anchorage and, when we got tired, back again. No destination in mind, the only goal was to make pictures and have fun. As soon as we left the protective valley surrounding Fairbanks, the cold, early March wind hit us pretty hard. But, we had a warm car, good tunes and a couple cameras. Making photographs is often about composing the interaction of light and luck. The sun often shines through the clouds in such a way that excites me not only as a photographer, but also as a minuscule human, viewing the sublime. This image records my favorite moment of that day, when light and luck struck me as ideal.
