STATEMENT I begin hand to canvas communication by applying randomly and vigorously a textured surface. I try and find lines, shapes, shadows and symbols within textured surface, to try and make sense or pull together these images; sometimes they find their way, and some and sometimes they will be disconnected but still have coincide within the piece. Paying close attention and looking at the texture helps in uniting the piece. The intent is to find how these lines, shapes, and symbols relate to each other, and find their place to create unity or balance. Perhaps because in life you are touched by many different things, your past, present, and future you have to experience and journey through; like the painting it’s self, one thing observed will overlap and influence another from beginning to end. My inspiration comes from different elements that surround us everyday, how we perceive them, and how we make them work. My work combines gesso and plaster, layered acrylic paint, glazes and oil crayons. The work is intricate, and it is in this process which helps me move forward, and possibly the audience it captures.
