My father is a photographer. I am a painter. I have always admired him and his work, for he has a passion for seeing things and telling a story through a lens. I paint very similar stories; we see things the same way. We are both drawn to some of the same imagery - cityscapes, graffiti, aging buildings washed with decay, lonely urban wanderers - evidence of human life and the mysterious side of being. Perhaps his passion for seeing things has influenced my own view. We combined our “way of seeing things” in a collaborative project for the Creative Blood show. Using my father’s original black and white prints as a starting point, I continue his story in each photo using my own voice, my paintbrush. We are both artists, observing life and telling similar stories, but each in our own unique way.
