Cognitive dissonance, the uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously, seems to be an apt term for how western cosumerist societies think or act during holidays such as Christmas. We present an image to ourselves, but there's an untidy reality which lies just below the surface. I wanted to make a work dealing with that "untidy reality." I also like to work with recycled bits and I thought it'd be especially appropriate in a work dealing with consumer mentalities. To that end, this piece is composed entirely of salvaged parts collected all around the country, from New York to Minneapolis.
