The work is part of a series entitled, The Fallen Tree Collection, which consists of the actual works of art (suitable for hanging) and the following manufactured news story: The General Motors Yellowstone National Park? National Parks Naming Rights Purchased (National Press News Wire – April 5) Outgoing Interior Secretary Gale Norton is putting the finishing touches on her last and most controversial project during her tenure, a plan to sell off naming rights for many of America’s most revered natural and historic locations. Environmentalists and Democrats have roundly criticized the plan, as have many in the President’s own party. But administration sources say it’s a brilliant example of a public-private partnership to save taxpayer money in a time of war. The first deal announced? General Motors will pay $20 million over seventeen years to rename Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana. States have quickly followed suit to ease budget shortfalls. New York’s Catskill Park has been renamed Country Trim Milk State Park. The images and text are placed in public forums (such as craigslist.com) to provoke thought and debate on the current political landscape…and to see who is paying attention.
