Linoleum block print
My name is Heather Garvey and I'm a California college student. Art has always been a part of my life and has helped me through so many struggles I have dealt with. When I was younger I was content with a pencil and some paper. Now that I have gotten older sketches won't fill my artistic visions anymore. I prefer to work in various types of media. Relief prints are a favorite of mine right now. There is just something about the pain your hand gets after carving and designing an image. Not knowing how it will really look until you have made several prints. Then re-carving and printing again when you get the image just right. A modeling picture that I had taken of myself inspired this particular piece. The photographer is a good friend of mine named Richard Rasner. It was one of my favorite pictures at the time and I couldn't get it out of my head. I knew I had to create something with it, something besides just a photograph. I pulled out a piece of linoleum and just started drawing and cutting away. Eventually I achieved the image that is printed today and I'm rather happy with it myself.
